It was included in Robert Christgau's "basic record library" of 1950s and 1960s music.
  • Format: The initial version was a 35-track triple LP record collection. It featured a 3-fold cover.
  • Content: The album covered material from 1962 to 1969, featuring Diana Ross as the lead singer alongside Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson, and later Cindy Birdsong. It also included less known songs and ventures into other genres.
  • Commercial Performance: The album charted at No. 24 on Billboard's "Black Albums" and No. 66 on "Pop Albums".

Subsequent Releases:
Motown released revised versions of "Anthology" in 1986, 1995, and 2001, some of which included tracks from the 1970s era of The Supremes after Diana Ross had left.
