Electric Light Orchestra – Face The Music
"Face the Music" is the fifth studio album by British band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), released in 1975
. It was released in September 1975 by United Artists Records and on November 14, 1975 in the United Kingdom by Jet Records.
The album marked a musical shift for ELO, moving towards more radio-friendly pop/rock songs while still featuring string sections. This new sound led to commercial success, with Face the Music becoming the band's first platinum album in the US, reaching number 8 there and charting in other countries like the Netherlands and Italy, though not in the UK.
Produced by Jeff Lynne, the album was recorded in Germany with string overdubs in London and mixing in New York City. It introduced a new lineup often referred to as the "classic lineup," which included Jeff Lynne, Bev Bevan, Richard Tandy, Kelly Groucutt, Mik Kaminski, Hugh McDowell, and Melvyn Gale.
Notable tracks include the popular singles "Evil Woman," which featured disco rhythms and was a hit in the UK and US, and "Strange Magic," known for Lynne's vocals and layered string arrangements. Other tracks include the instrumental "Fire on High" and the ballad "One Summer Dream".
