"Aloha From Hawaii Via Satellite" is a landmark live album by Elvis Presley, released in February 1973. It's a soundtrack to his globally televised concert of the same name, which took place in Honolulu, Hawaii.
About the concert and album:
  • Historic Broadcast: The concert was broadcast live via satellite to audiences across Asia and Oceania on January 14, 1973, becoming a massive global event. A delayed broadcast aired in the United States on April 4, 1973, due to conflicts with Super Bowl VII and his film Elvis on Tour.
  • Charitable Cause: The show was a benefit concert for the Kui Lee Cancer Fund, with Presley donating the first $1,000.
  • Commercial Success: The album was a huge success, becoming a number one album for Elvis and his last chart-topper during his lifetime. It reached number one on both the pop and country charts in the US and achieved 5x platinum certification by the RIAA.
  • Genre: The album encompasses rock and roll, country music, and other genres.
  • Content: The double-LP album contains recordings from the concert, featuring songs that had previously been recorded by Presley but not yet released. It's notable for being the first album in the quadraphonic format to reach number one on the Billboard album chart.
  • Last Major Triumph: Some consider the concert and album to be the last recorded live performance of Presley at the height of his career before his declining health.
  • 50th Anniversary Edition: A remastered and expanded 50th-anniversary edition was released in 2023, including the full concert, a rehearsal show, bonus performances, and a Blu-ray of the concert film.
