Jefferson Starship – Red Octopus
"Red Octopus" is the second album by American rock band Jefferson Starship, released in 1975
- Commercial Success: This album is the best-selling album by any Jefferson Airplane group and its spin-offs. It was certified double platinum by the RIAA in 1995.
- Chart Performance: "Red Octopus" topped the Billboard 200 chart for four weeks.
- Hit Single "Miracles": The album includes the single "Miracles," which became the band's highest-charting single. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard singles chart.
- Musical Style: The album is considered more ballad-heavy and melodic than earlier Jefferson Airplane albums. This contributed to its broader appeal. "Miracles" was not a typical track for the band.
- Personnel: The album features Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Marty Balin, Craig Chaquico, Papa John Creach, and Pete Sears, among others. Marty Balin's return to a leadership role and his contributions, particularly "Miracles," were highly praised. Grace Slick's vocal contributions were somewhat limited.
"Red Octopus" is a significant album in Jefferson Starship's history, representing their peak commercial success and showcasing a blend of their signature rock sound with a more accessible approach.
