Let It Be by The Beatles (1970)
Let It Be is the twelfth and final studio album by the English rock band The Beatles, released on May 8, 1970. It holds a unique and somewhat controversial place in the band's history, released nearly a month after the official announcement of their breakup.
Background and Production:
  • Original Concept: The album was initially conceived as Get Back. This project aimed to capture the band returning to a simpler, live-to-tape recording style.
  • "Get Back" Sessions: Rehearsals began in January 1969. These sessions were documented for a planned television documentary showcasing the band's return to live performance. The sessions included tensions and conflict, including George Harrison's temporary departure.
  • Rooftop Concert: Several tracks on the album came from the rooftop concert on January 30, 1969.
  • Phil Spector's Production: John Lennon and George Harrison enlisted American producer Phil Spector to assemble the final version after the band rejected mixes of the album (then titled Get Back) prepared by engineer Glyn Johns.
  • Controversial Overdubs: Spector's production choices, including the addition of orchestral and choral overdubs, proved controversial and angered Paul McCartney.
